What is BSOK and why do you hate it so much?

Too many shapes scattered randomly throughout the clothing catalog? Can’t figure out what bodysize that dress is for? Well those can now be problems of the past.

With this kit you can update your clothing to be arranged in order of approximate size from smallest to largest and each size/shape/group will get an icon to let you know what it is!

BSOK is, quite simply, Bodyshape Organization Kit. It’s a tool/ set of icons for organizing multiple bodyshapes in the CAS catalog.

As current steward of old BSOK, I’ve long been aware of its shortcomings. When Chris Hatch and thetigerking86 originally conceived of it in 2011, InSimadult and Back Alley Sims were both massively popular sites, and creating new bodyshapes was en vogue. So the tool was originally conceived as a means to catalog every single shape, no matter how much content exists for it. So there are a lot of shapes that take up real estate on the list but never really get used (e.g. Chubby Guy, Neanderthal, Runner, Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, Statuesque, Kurvy K, Gypsy Rose Lee, Hourglass, Ruben, and Fantasy Girl). This is space that can’t be expanded upon as old bodyshapes are phased out and new bodyshapes emerge.

A workaround for this ocurred to me when Norica asked me for feedback when deveolping mfBSOK. A new set of products could be created outside of the original range of the BSOK. A couple of months of experimenting, and the new version is fianlly available for release.

What’s Different?

It uses a unique range of products, so it’s compatible with both legacy BSOK and mfBSOK

• All new icons (with consistent fonts and color categories)

• Clutter shapes have been removed. Currently only supports shapes that users are actively creating new meshes for. Categorized products available for Maxis AF/AM, FitChick, Rio, CPU, VolGal, AG, BBG, Amazonian, Death by Snu-Snu, LBB, SBB, BB, HBB (shapes that I actively create for) and for Well-Rounded Sim, Momma Lisa, Fashion Model, Sussi, Bootylicious, Slim Male, and Bear Bodybuilder (shapes that I don’t currently create for, but provide partial support for)

Expandable based on demand.

• It was created to categorize clothes primarily for a military/sci-fi/modern game, so has nine unique categories for every bodyshape.

What will happen to legacy BSOK?

Nothing. I will continue to host it as is, but don’t plan on doing further updates for it. Moving forward, all of my clothes and Body Shop projects for fantasy/medieval games will be mfBSOK’d, and all of my clothes for modern/ military/ sci-fi games will be nuBSOK’d. As time permits, I’ll probably create a resource list for clothing sets that have been recategorized as nuBSOK.
